Forex Pip Sizing Tips

Different pairs have different pip values

Unless your account currency is the same as the quote currency (e.g. USD account trading EUR/USD), the pip value fluctuates dynamically based on current spot rates.

JPY pairs use 0.01 pip pricing

Japanese Yen pairs are quoted with fewer decimal places. A pip is represented by the 2nd decimal digit (0.01) rather than the standard 4th decimal digit (0.0001).

Gold behaves differently

Gold (XAU/USD) contract size is 100 ounces per standard lot. A pip is a 0.01 movement, meaning standard lots have a pip value of $1.00 USD (or equivalent account base currency).

Always calculate before risking capital

Never guess your pip weight. Small differences in pip values between cross rates (like GBP/JPY vs EUR/USD) can dramatically impact your final position risk size.
